Monticello City Council met in regular session Monday night,
September 9th and approved tax rates for 2013-2014. Real estate
property tax rates will increase slightly, while the rate for tangible
property will decrease.
The council approved the second reading of the ordinance, which
levies a tax of 12.5 cents per hundred dollars of assessed value for
real property taxes, up from 12.3 cents in 2012.
The rate for tangible property was set at 13.8 cents per hundred
dollars of assessed value, down from 14.1 cents in 2012. The tax
rates for watercraft and vehicles remained the same at 22.5 cents per
hundred dollars of assessed value.

where there are concerns regarding traffic. One was in the Green
Acres area where residents are concerned with speeders. Another area
discussed was along Bypass 90, where council discussed more
enforcement for speeding as well as for motorists who pass on the
shoulder of the road.
Council members learned more about the Chamber of Commerce Christmas
Parade during the meeting. Councilman Charlie Peters said that plans
are being made for the parade which is set for Friday, December 6.
